MG MGB GT - SOLD
On offer is an outstanding example of the desirable MGB GT, finished in probably the best colour, Tartan Red with contrasting black leather trim piped in red.
Altogether 512,112 GTs and Roadsters were built spanning a production of 18 years, and it is clear that the designers favoured styling that was inspired by the Aston Martin DB2/4, with the GT coupe arriving in September 1965. The MGB underwent a number of facelifts during its production, eventually being powered by a V8 engine, but never lost sight of its original concept and nowadays remains one of the best supported classic cars of them all for spares backup, specialists and clubs.
From the 'sweet spot' in terms of early features, this car retains it's sprung steering wheel, chrome bumpers, slatted grille and early design rear lights. Unusually, it sports an expensive set of centre lock minilte style wheels which really suit the car..
The previous owner has invested in a high level of maintenance and improvement resulting on a car that is 'on the button' and ready to go.
The overall condition of the car is superb with excellent panel fit and shut lines, underneath is very clean with no evidence of welded repairs.
For sale on behalf of our customer.
Available to view in our dry, well lit sales barn by appointment.
Bodywork
A really beautifully presented car with excellent shut lines and panel fit, no issues with any of the seams, a solid example.
Mechanical
The car starts easily and idles well once warmed up, showing excellent oil pressure and no evidence of overheating. Performing well on test drive, the engine pulls strongly and the controls are light and easy to use, the overdrive flicking in and out on demand - delightful.
Exterior
Tartan red really suits the lines of the GT, the chrome work is in excellent order including the quarter light frames which are often 'pickled', not so on this example. The paint has a lovely shine and is complimented by the rare and expensive knock on style wheels, in turn these are shod with excellent tyres.
Interior
Clearly the interior has seen many hours of care and attention to bring it up to this condition, the seats, trimmed in black leather with red piping, have settled in nicely and the carpets appear nearly new.
