We are delighted to offer this extremely attractive Talbot Ten Drop Head Coupe, coachbuilt by E D Abbott Limited.

Following on from the Talbot Ten of 1935/6, which was effectively the replacement for the sporting Hillman Aero Minx, the Sunbeam-Talbot marque came into being and a revised 10hp range was announced, being described at the time as ‘Britain’s Most Exclusive Light Car’

Well equipped and available in saloon, drophead coupe and sports tourer versions, the Sunbeam-Talbot Ten was to prove very popular and was reintroduced after the war, continuing until 1948.

On offer here is a particularly pretty example of the Drop Head Coupe, with Coachworks by Abbott of Farnham.

Dispatched from the Abbott works in November 1937, the car was delivered to its first owner by the Bristol Motor Company, the car appears to have retained its original registration which also hails from Bristol.

Restored over an extended period, the car remains in delightful condition throughout and is surprisingly roomy with good performance.

The car is in exceptional order having been well cared for and used regularly, proving completely reliable. Stylish and remarkably useable, this delightful motor car always turns heads wherever it goes.

Bodywork

The mid green colour compliments the lines of the car admirably, the car looks lovely with the hood up or down and has some wonderful design features that make it a most attractive example.

Underneath all appears well with evidence of diligent maintenance, the ash frame seems solid and the whole structure sound.

Mechanical

The car performed superbly on a recent run out, three up, and demonstrated a reasonable turn of speed with easy smooth gearchanges and a willing engine. The steering is typically vague but once you get into the 'rythym' of the car, it is far less noticeable and bowls along beautifully. The engine is quiet and remarkably free from oil leaks.

Exterior

Visually the car is extremely appealing with the striking colour complimented by the black wire wheels, the bodywork is very straight with no attention required.

Interior

The most endearing feature of the car is the interior. Great care has clearly been taken over the retrim with the highest quality material used. The leather seating is wonderfully soft and the carpets fit superbly, all in all a delightful place to be with an abundance of charm including the wind out windscreen for extra ventialtion.

Apart from our accurate and reliable description of this car we believe you will not find a better bunch of chaps to deal with; we know our MGs inside out, we won’t flannel you with sales speak and we aim to provide you with a car that you will be bringing back in a year’s time when the next service and MOT is due, no sooner! However, if you do have a problem we will stand by our car and help you in every way possible. We like to think that 38 years in this business counts for something.

We are in the quiet Berkshire countryside but close to the M4 and Mortimer Railway Station. Our local pub, the Elm Tree is just a few minutes’ walk away and serves fantastic food and proper beers. Call us to arrange a viewing and a test-drive and come and make a day of it.
