Previously sold by ourselves, on offer is this delightful early MGB Roadster finished in British Racing Green and with chrome wire wheels, it really does present beautifully.

When launched in 1963, the B was a departure from MG tradition, but the result was a smooth and sophisticated sports car for its time.

Gone was the separate chassis used on previous models, the B was MG’s first unitary construction car, and that resulted in a much stiffer car with more predictable and precise handling.

The mechanical package is simple, up front is the venerable BMC B-series four-cylinder engine now enlarged to 1.8 litres capacity, it's a long stroke unit with pushrod actuated overhead valves, fed by twin SU carburettors making it torquey and long lasting. Being an early car, this example is fitted with a four-speed manual gearbox with synchromesh on the top three gears, and a precise gearshift.

Stopping power is good with solid discs at the front and drums at the rear, rack and pinion steering is direct, but precise and with quite good feel.

Inside, the B is quite roomy by sports car standards with a broad cockpit with a pair of black trimmed sports buckets either side of the centre tunnel together with a full complement of Smiths black-faced gauges.

This example was restored to a high standard many years ago and remains in excellent condition and is accompanied by a thick history demonstrating diligent maintenance.

Early cars are extremely sought after and this super example offers excellent value for money.

Bodywork

An original car with good panel gaps and shut lines.

Mechanical

The car will have gone through our workshop before leaving us so will have a new MoT and be fully serviced. It is currently having a replacement radiator fitted and a general tune up. Nonetheless, it drove very well on road test exhibiting all the sign of a very well sorted 'B'.

Exterior

With a deep even gloss, the paintwork is remarkable given that it was restored many years ago, complimented by excellent chrome including the lovely chrome wire wheels which are shod with good tyres.

Interior

Tastefully trimmed in period black with white piping, the car is every inch the epitome of a British sports car.

Apart from our accurate and reliable description of this car we believe you will not find a better bunch of chaps to deal with; we know our MGs inside out, we won’t flannel you with sales speak and we aim to provide you with a car that you will be bringing back in a year’s time when the next service and MOT is due, no sooner! However, if you do have a problem we will stand by our car and help you in every way possible. We like to think that 38 years in this business counts for something.

We are in the quiet Berkshire countryside but close to the M4 and Mortimer Railway Station. Our local pub, the Elm Tree is just a few minutes’ walk away and serves fantastic food and proper beers. Call us to arrange a viewing and a test-drive and come and make a day of it.

  • If you are going to use your MGB for everyday use, for competition, or your current gearbox is giving you trouble then our Mazda gearbox conversion might be an ideal solution for you.
