On offer is this beautiful MG RV8 finished in stunning Woodcote Green with tan leather trim and an extremely rare matching hardtop.
The car was named RV8 to denote its Rover engine – the ‘B’ was dropped in order to appeal to new-age fans as well as the traditional MGB enthusiasts.
MG RV8, at its launch, proved something of a hit in Japan. Launched at the British Motor Show in 1992, the MG RV8 marked the welcome return of the quintessential MG Roadster.
Despite, or maybe because of, the RV8 being based on a 30 year old model, its classic status was assured from the day it was unveiled, and with a mere 1982 built between 1992 and 1995, the cars are now sought after and they’re also more unusual than you might think.
Many dismiss the RV8 as little more than a B in a party frock, but the metamorphosis involved replacing 95% of the body panels to give a much more muscular look. The 3.9 litre V8 was also a massive improvement over the B-series of the MGB, and to improve handling there was a wider track covered by flared wheel arches and upgraded suspension.
The interior was streets ahead with its standard wooden dashboard and door cappings plus leather seats and whilst it might have looked ‘olde worlde’, it was perfectly in keeping with the MG’s role as quintessential British sportscar.
Although 1583 RV8s went to Japan, many of those examples have now returned to the UK, joining the 307 originally sold here, including this one.
The car returned to the UK in 2003 and as it was previously sold by us, we know the car well having worked on it for a fastidious owner who undertook a number of worthwhile and recognised upgrades including the fitment of EZ power steering, adjustable Spax shock absorbers and ECU chip upgrade. In the past, the car has also been to Rover V8 specialists, RPI ENgineering, who tuned the engine fitting Magnecor plug leads, a bespoke power ignition amplifier, NGK plugs, cap and rotor arm.
There is a thick history file from its time in the UK together with a fully stamped service book from Japanese, it's clearly been well looked after!
Overall, a stunning example that is good to drive and surprisingly quick.
