MG MGB GT - £13,995
A stunning example finished in Flame Red with black trim, an older restoration that is holding up extremely well with bright glossy paint and good panel fit.
The MGB's appeal was considerably widened with the launch of the GT in 1965 with its fastback roof, designed by Pininfarina, the design echoed conventional GT styling cues but resulted in a good looking variant. Usefully, the raised windscreen height and side windows means that even taller drivers benefit from increased headroom over a Roadster and although the rear-seats are really only useful for luggage, they prove to be most practicable in daily use. Under the skin, the GT is as the Roadster, and that means tidy handling and excellent performance.
Being a later car, the car has a four-speed gearbox with synchromesh on all forward ratios, and being a 1970 on example, it is referred to as a MK3 but has retained the chrome grille and slats.
The body and paintwork are excellent and sits well on an appealing set of chrome wire wheels shod with good tyres.
A big bonus on any GT is the fitment of a full length folder fabric sunroof which gives the car a light airy feel and gives the benefit of practicality but with open air motoring.
Few really good examples of the GT survive and this must surely be one of the best.
Available for viewing, by appointment please, in our dry and well lit sales barn.
Bodywork
Straight and solid, good panel fit and no evidence of any issues.
Mechanical
The car performed really well on test proving easy to start from cold and pulling well in each gear with no hesitation or faltering, the overdrive works beautifully and the handling is surefooted with good brakes, overall a delightful car to drive.
Exterior
Clearly great car was taken over the restoration and the quality shines through, the chrome, trim and lighting equipment is all in fine order, the overall impression is of a very well looked after motor car.
Interior
Although restored some time ago, the seats are virtually unmarked and are the rare vinyl with brushed nylon centres, the carpets are excellent and the dashboard finish good, all the switches operate well and it is a pleasant place to be.
