Simon Merriott has agreed to let him out again in his beautiful ’63 MGB FIA Spec car.

ecurie GTS is administered by the MG Car Club and runs as part of its race programme at some of the best UK circuits.

Its aim is to provide a competitive yet gentlemanly, safe and friendly race series with a high standard of driving and car preparation for competent drivers with cars complying to Appendix K regulations.

It is designed for pre 1966 FiA type cars (FiA papers not demanded) with smaller engines spread across five classes from under 1150 to 2700cc.

The list of eligible cars is compiled to give close competitive racing. The Drivers Steering Group aims to provide a great racing series and above all, a safe and fun environment for drivers.

There are a number of changes to the MOT being introduced next year, many of them to address the constant move to electronic systems in new vehicles. There are, however, some clarifications and additions that will improve the test for all vehicles, some of these are particularly relevant to our classic fleets and we’ve listed some examples below. A full list can be found here: http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/MoT%20-%20Issue%2052%20-%20Dec%202011.pdf

How many of us can’t adjust the driver’s seat in our Bs? Don’t need to, right? I’m the only one who drives it. From January 1st 2012 this will fail the MOT. “The driver’s seat fore and aft adjustment mechanism not functioning as intended.“

The testing of ball joint rubber covers and driveshaft gaiters has been clarified. “Steering and suspension ball joint dust covers not preventing the ingress of dirt etc.” and “Any drive shaft support bearing excessively worn or a coupling gaiter missing or no longer preventing the ingress of dirt etc.” So, all boots and gaiters need to be present and in good condition.

On vehicles subect to a full emissions test: “A catalytic converter missing where one was fitted as standard.” So, those cars with a missing catalytic converter that have previously passed an emissions test will automatically fail the MOT regardless of emissions.

Finally, some tidying up of various items: “A battery insecure or leaking electrolyte.” and “Electrical wiring insecure or inadequately supported, or its insulation excessively damaged or deteriorated.” No more rats nests or snakes weddings!

The above are items we have picked out using our knowledge of what we see on a day to day basis, full details can be found by following the link above to the VOSA website.

As seen in MG Enthusiast magazine.

Now available as a pressed rather than fabricated panel.

These can be a vital panel when restoring MGC bodywork. Never available new as they were originally sold as part of the chassis legs these panels are a replacement for the often corroded or damaged torsion bar panels.

To ensure authenticity and appearance we have made the tooling to press the panels, instead of fabricating, to reproduce as close as possible the same finish as when they left the factory. These are hand-built in our workshop using a single sheet of 20 gauge steel. They fit the Roadster or GT bodies.

When completing a thorough restoration panel fit and finish is a key issue, we have used these in restorations in our workshop and although a small degree of “fettling” will always be required these panels fit nicely and complete an important structural section of the MGC body.

The pressing process achieves the correct lip section on the inspection holes and produces the services channel on the right hand panel. We weld in the captive nuts for the three services brackets on the right hand side.

We can offer these individually or in pairs. The right hand panel (HZA1406) costs £160 including VAT, the left hand (HZA1407) costs £200 including VAT or a pair at are £325 including VAT.

To order yours please call us on 0118 988 4774, thank you.
