Launched in 1962, the sporty Triumph Spitfire shared the same chassis as the Herald and Vitesse saloons, giving the company a much needed boost in attracting a different market suiting customers who didn't want the larger TR sports cars of the time. The Spitfire evolved over the next two decades with the pretty MK4 shape emerging in 1971 originally with a 1300cc engine and then onto the last of the line 1500 model.

A local car from new, this delightful Triumph Spitfire was supplied new to Whites Garage, Camberley in August 1978. With just 5 previous owners, the last since 1989, the car has clearly been cherished by each and as such is in remarkable condition.

Substantially restored in 2001, with supporting receipts, the bodywork remains in very good condition with bright, glossy paintwork and good panel fit, it is on the button and usefully has overdrive fitted making longer journeys more pleasant.

The thick history file includes old MoT certificates and receipts for maintenance carried out, including many from ourselves.

A great first classic with straightforward mechanicals, excellent parts back up and cheap to insure, what's not to like!

Available to view in our dry, well lit sales barn by appointment please.

Bodywork

Excellent condition with just a couple of minor blemishes, solid chassis .

Mechanical

Starts easily from hot or cold, the car drives really nicely, the overdrive engages smoothly, both clutch and steering are light, overall a very pleasant driving experience.

Exterior

Despite having been restored over 20 years ago, the exterior is in really good order, a new hood has been fitted recently, the chrome shows light patination, the tyres have plenty of tread and the overall appearance is well above average.

Interior

Finished in an attractive beige houndstooth pattern, the interior is mostly original and in good condition, the carpets are in good condition as are the door cards etc, the wood finish dashboard is good and the switches and instruments work correctly. We will be fitting a new drivers seat foam and base before it leaves us.

Apart from our accurate and reliable description of this car we believe you will not find a better bunch of chaps to deal with; we know our MGs inside out, we won’t flannel you with sales speak and we aim to provide you with a car that you will be bringing back in a year’s time when the next service and MOT is due, no sooner! However, if you do have a problem we will stand by our car and help you in every way possible. We like to think that 38 years in this business counts for something.

We are in the quiet Berkshire countryside but close to the M4 and Mortimer Railway Station. Our local pub, the Elm Tree is just a few minutes’ walk away and serves fantastic food and proper beers. Call us to arrange a viewing and a test-drive and come and make a day of it.
