The new MGB sports car was officially launched at the Earls Court motor show on September 20th 1962 to worldwide press and public approval and cost £690 plus purchase tax. The MGB in 1962 was known as the mark 1 and had leather seats, pull handle doors flush fitting locks, disc wheels, cross ply tyres, aluminium bonnet, pack-away hood and the grey hood frame split into two to allow for storage in the boot. In 1963 as well as the folding hood mentioned above overdrive and wire wheels were offered as optional extras.

Our car is in superb order having previously been owned by a lecturer in motor vehicle maintenance who has the tidiest garage I have ever seen. Rare in early 'pull handle' guise, this car is the sweet spot for MGB enthusiasts being the right colour and fitted with wire wheels and overdrive. The body and paint are lovely with the best door fit we have seen in ages, it drives beautifully and would stand out at any car show. The history is extensive including the original buff log book and records showing that it has always been a local car.

Only available due to the limited mobility of the previous owner, we are delighted to offer the car ready to go and with a long MoT.

Available to view in our dry, well lit sales barn, by appointment please.

Bodywork

Rock solid and with excellent panel fit, the car presents beautifully.

Mechanical

The thick history file attests to regular maintenance, it is 'on the button' and pulls strongly in all gears, remembering that it retains it's period correct 3 syncro gearbox, the overdrive works well and oil pressure is spot on.

Exterior

Simply stunning and presented in the most popular Tartan red, the car sits beautifully on the road and set off by the smart wire wheels shod with good tyres, the hood is excellent and fits well, all of the chrome and lenses are in fine order - a car to be proud of.

Interior

Appearing almost as new but with a very light patina, all of the switches and gauges work correctly, the dashboard crackle finish is excellent - all in all a very pleasant place to sit.

Apart from our accurate and reliable description of this car we believe you will not find a better bunch of chaps to deal with; we know our MGs inside out, we won’t flannel you with sales speak and we aim to provide you with a car that you will be bringing back in a year’s time when the next service and MOT is due, no sooner! However, if you do have a problem we will stand by our car and help you in every way possible. We like to think that 38 years in this business counts for something.

We are in the quiet Berkshire countryside but close to the M4 and Mortimer Railway Station. Our local pub, the Elm Tree is just a few minutes’ walk away and serves fantastic food and proper beers. Call us to arrange a viewing and a test-drive and come and make a day of it.

  • If you are going to use your MGB for everyday use, for competition, or your current gearbox is giving you trouble then our Mazda gearbox conversion might be an ideal solution for you.

  • When you own a classic car knowing where to get the best spare parts is crucial. We have a dedicated Parts Manager who will track down the best quality and hardest to find part for your car, we like to call this Automotive Archaeology, if it’s available ... we will find it.
